Is it better to wax or shave?

Shaving may seem like a ‘quick-fix’ option but eventually unsightly stubble will develop and reappear after each shave very quickly, usually the next day.

Shaving cuts the hair at the base, when the hair grows the base effectively becomes the new tip and the root becomes even thicker to support the now wider hair.

With continuous shaving the hair become so thick that they take longer to shed and often two hairs will grow from the same follicle making the area twice as hairy as before.

Shaving also makes ‘micro-cuts’ on the surface of your skin, hence the burning sensation when products are applied.  Many men and women react to this in what is known as a ‘shaving rash’.

Shaving causes extreme dryness as a combination of shaving rash and the scraping of essential oils from the epidermis.  Yet moisturizing immediately after shaving will burn and likely cause a reaction.

In contrast, waxing removes the hair from the follicle completely so there is an increased time lapse while a new root develops and begins to grow to the surface of the skin.  The new hair will be tapered as it has not been cut and therefore is less visible.

With repeated waxing the hair follicles will run out of hair cells and cease to function so women who keep up with regular waxing sessions find large areas never re-grow again.

With each wax the follicle is slightly loosened and although they appear the same they release the hairs a lot easier making each session less painful than the last.

Only inexperienced therapists cause adverse side effects during waxing which can include bruising and increased in-grown hairs.  This is why it is better to make appointments with a specialist waxing salon.

9 out of 10 Brazilian Waxing Company customers swear that they will never return to shaving, in fact it is common for people to book their appointments a day before their 2 week holiday and they never even take a razor with them.
